Smoothest Ride I ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
After years of wasting money on cheap $119.99 bikes from your local big chain stores I finally decided I had enough rough riding & spent a few extra bucks on the Diamondback Wildwood. Day 1 review is awesome! This is the lightest bike I ever owned, it is very stable and it rides as smooth as a lincoln town car. I swear, even if you have a good road bike to go out riding with your friends, this is a great second bike for enjoying local family fun time. I mostly chose the bike myself because it is a cross between a road bike & a mountain bike, so I can ride the streets in my neighborhood & cut through the parks with ease as well. My wife loved it so much we ended up buying her the diamondback serene citi bike, http://www.amazon.com/Diamondback-Classic-Comfort-26-Inch-15-Inch/dp/B002LFTSGE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1283717023&sr=8-2which is the womens equivelant to the mens wildwood. Great 1st bike, 1st bike in years to start again or Great second bike for the serious biker.

|BEWARE…NO WARRANTY!,
When I purchased this bike I read all the details including the full featured warranty. After owning a Diamondback response sport for over four years and enjoying it very much, I didn’t hesitate buying another product from them. This was a mistake. Not only do I now have a bike that has had a problem with the rear axle since day one, I learn that if one buys a diamondback bike “in the box” there is NO WARRANTY! I am now stuck with a sub-standard product and am not happy about it.

|A decent bike, but quality control issues make it hit or miss,
I recently bought the 2011 version of this bike, known now simply as the Wildwood Classic DLX. It is essentially the same bike. I bought it pre-assembled from one of the major sporting goods chains. This bicycle is very comfortable to ride, just as the name implies. However, a couple of issues arose very quickly. First, I had only had the bike for about two months of light riding (sidewalks and street) when the rear tire developed a leak and went flat. This was puzzling because there was no apparent puncture and I had no recall of riding over anything that would have caused a problem. I took the bike to a local shop, which removed the wheel and the tube. They showed me what looked like a small but deep gouge in the metal on the inside of the wheel. It was clearly something that had been done during manufacture, perhaps by a machine or a worker’s tool that slipped. The problem wasn’t so much the gouge, but the fact that it left a very tiny, sharp protrusion at the end. This sharp spot punctured the tube and caused the flat. The shop used a special tape to cover this defect, but could not reassure me that it would be a permanent fix. They did not want to try to sand down the defect (which seemed to me like it might work but they said that it’s not typical to machine the inside of a bicycle wheel the way one might a automobile wheel; you generally replace it — I’m not sure if that’s true). In any event, the flat was fixed and has held up so far with the tape inside the wheel, but I’m left wondering about the quality control at Diamondback. I am still thinking about bringing the bike back to the dealer or contacting Diamondback about getting them to replace the wheel, but I anticipate a major hassle.
The other thing that was immediate an issue with this bike was the derailleur. The shifting was very clunky. This may very well be an issue with the assembly; I can only hope so. The bike shop did a quick adjustment but warned that the folks who do the assembly for the big box stores are poorly trained and working in a big hurry. So in the meantime, the shifting is somewhat inconsistent; some shifts are smooth; others result in far more clanking and rubbing than would be expected.
The performance of the brakes is fair. If you purchase this bike, either pre-assembled at a sporting goods store, or you assemble it yourself, I highly recommend having a qualified bike shop do a real tune up to adjust the derailleur, true the wheels, and so on.
On the positive side, the seat is comfortable, as is the riding position. Overall, I would rate this as a “fair” product but I am disappointed with the quality control — especially the wheel defect. If it had not been for that as well as the problems with poorly adjusted shifting mechanisms, I probably would have given it another star. As it stands, I would not buy a Diamondback again. And actually, I think I’ve learned my lesson about buying bikes from big-box stores; will probably spend a little more and buy from a reputable bicycle shop.
